Tom Holland and Florence Pugh Discuss Spider-Man/Yelena Crossover

Tom Holland reveals that he would be interested in doing a Spider-Man/Yelena Belova crossover and that he and Florence Pugh discussed the idea.

Tom Holland reveals he’s talked to Florence Pugh about a potential Spider Man and Yelena crossover. First appears as the character in 2016 Captain America: Civil WarHolland’s take on Spider-Man has captured the hearts of MCU fans everywhere, most recently appearing in the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: No Way Home. The third mention in Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy is also a huge hit with fans and currently has the highest audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes for any MCU movie.

While they don’t bring in the same cash register numbers as Spider-Man: No Way Home, last summer Black Widow introduced the audience to Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, a character who has quickly become a fan favorite. Since appearing with Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, Belova has also appeared in the recent MCU Disney+ show hawk eye. Belova’s short two-episode run on the show has been hailed as one of the series’ highlights and has many fans looking forward to Pugh’s next appearance as the Black Widow successor.

In an interview with The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show (through Comic book), Holland reveals that he and Pugh have the possibility of a crossover event between Spider Man and her Yelena. Holland expresses hope that one day the crossover will take place, but does say the idea hasn’t been pitched to any of the senior folks at Marvel yet, who would eventually give the project the green light. Watch the full commentary from the Netherlands below:

“[A Spider-Man and Black Widow II crossover] hasn’t been introduced to the big bosses yet, but Florence and I have certainly talked about it, and hopefully one day we can make that happen. That would be really cool.”

Spider-Man Writers Explain Maguire, Garfield & Holland's Bond

After the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland has provided a range of reactions regarding his future as Spider-Man, ranging from saying it might be time for him to step down from the role of starting a family, to suggesting that he may actually be isn’t ready to say goodbye to the character just yet. The new comments about a crossover with Pugh’s Yelena suggest that the Netherlands is still interested in being spiderman, at least in some capacity. Given Yelena’s popularity as a character and the fact that Pugh’s MCU career seems to have only just begun, a crossover with Spider Man is certainly not out of reach.

The key to a good partnership, as most good buddy police movies will attest, is to put together two characters with different personalities. Yelena has proven to be more ruthless than her sister, Natasha, and she doesn’t hesitate when it comes to sending out bad guys. Holland’s Spider-Man, however, is concerned with doing good and protecting people, sometimes almost to failure, making the two characters a perfect combination in many ways. The dynamic has already been proven to work with Hailee Steinfeld’s funny and competitive relationship between Yelena and Kate Bishop in hawk eye. Although the Netherlands’ Spider Man future remains somewhat unclear, Sony has confirmed that its Spider-Man has been contracted to appear in at least one more MCU project, and a crossover with Pugh’s Yelena is sure to be a hit with fans.
