It is probably natural that Obi-Wan Kenobi the show leans more towards the action-oriented prequels version of the character and doesn’t just show him as an ancient hermit living in a cave on the desert planet of Tatooine. Whatever the show has in store, McGregor himself believes the story will be well received by fans when it finally makes its way to Disney+. He told Forbes

“I’m not going to divulge anything further about the storyline, just I think it will really satisfy Star Wars fans. I’ve always felt that there was a story between Episode III, where I was done playing Obi-Wan in the movies and Episode IV where Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi [Obi-Wan Kenobi series] writers and Deb [Chow] and me and everybody, i think we made a really nice storyline or made them. What exactly that fan-satisfying storyline entails is, of course, still shrouded in secrecy at this point. Indeed, Obi-Wan Kenobi remains such a mystery that there isn’t even a proper trailer and a poster showing McGregor’s Kenobi has only just been released – still keeping Kenobi himself at bay, preserving the mystique of the show. What is known is that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, opening up the possibility for an epic lightsaber duel between Kenobi and his old student.

Seeing Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin/Vader fighting on screen again would be very satisfying indeed Star Wars fans. But there’s just as much of the fan base that might just hate the idea of Obi-Wan Kenobi going back to that source after so many years of lightsaber duels. As recent Disney+ Star Wars shows give some hints as to what: Kenya will do story wise, it’s fair to guess there will be plenty of action and lots of cameos from minor Star Wars movie characters from the past, as well as connections to shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels† Whether this satisfies the fans, as McGregor thinks, will really depend on expectations. Some will argue with shows like: The Mandalorian and Boba Fett’s book trying too hard to give fans what they expect while others think the shows hit the sweet spot when it comes to evoking the spirit of Star WarsObi-Wan Kenobi will be released on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
