Stephen King is one of the most adapted authors of all time, and the vast majority of his novels have received a movie or TV version. Some of the most acclaimed films based on his work include: The shining – although the author himself has expressed his distaste for the 1980 film – The Shawshank Redemption and The fog† King himself once stepped behind the camera for 1986 Maximum overdrivewhich was a huge mess but has gained a cult following.
Some of Stephen King’s novels are sprawling behemoths that are difficult to narrow down to movie length. Mr Mercedes is a 2014 novel by Stephen King in which a retired detective named Bill Hodges was tormented by a serial killer named Brady Hartsfield, who is also known by his alter ego Mr. Mercedes. He drove into a Mercedes into a group of people, leaving the case – one of Hodges’s last before his retirement – unsolved. The pair soon go head to head over the course of a trilogy of Stephen King books. Audience Network adjusted Mr Mercedes, in which the great Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway play Hodges and Brady respectively. The serial killer show is currently not available to stream from Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime in the US

The first two seasons of Mr Mercedes can be found on NBC Universal’s Peacock streaming service, as well as the free library-associated streamer Hoopla. The show is also available for purchase through platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Vudu, and Amazon. For the most part, all three seasons of Mr Mercedes have received great reviews and the show is regarded as one of the strongest television adaptations of King’s work to date.
Sadly, it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a fourth season Mr Mercedes as the Audience Network was discontinued in early 2020. While it’s possible it could return for another season if picked up by another network or platform, like the aforementioned Peacock, there’s no sign of the series continuing. The show also featured a cameo appearance from Stephen King during the first season, where he doesn’t go well in one of Brady’s gory daydreams.

There’s good news for America’s neighbors to the north who might want to take a look Mr Mercedes, as all three seasons are, in fact, available to stream via Amazon Prime Video in Canada, in addition to the availability of Hoopla and Illico.
