Artem Chingvinstev continues to battle pneumonia after he dropped out of the Dancing With the Stars tour last month. Fans are sad, but wish him the best.
Artem Chigvintsev continues to recover from pneumonia after being forced to withdraw from most recent Dancing with the stars tour. The American reboot of Strictly Come Dancing has featured Artem’s talents since 2014 and has paired him with celebrities such as Patti LaBelle, Mischa Barton and now fiancé Nikki Bella. With previous experience including other hit leagues like So you think you can dance? the Russian-American professional dancer has been popular with fans of the show for years.
Artem and his partner Kaitlyn Bristowe of Bachelor Nation were partners for DWTS season 29. Declared winners in November 2020, Artem and Kaitlyn placed second-highest overall at 26.4; this occasion marked Artem’s first professional win in the United States. Dancing with the Stars: Live! started on January 7 and will run until March 27. Dancers other than Kaitlyn performing include Emma Slater, Britt Stewart, Sasha Farber, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten and Gleb Savchenko. Although Artem was also scheduled to take part in the tour, his last-minute illness caused him to drop out, much to the dismay of fans and colleagues.
Two weeks later People first reported the unexpected changes of plans, Artem gave a brief update to the concerned viewers. Hop on Twitter to thank everyone for their well wishes, Artem gave a little more insight into what happened to his health. “I had another x-ray yesterday and it was still positive for pneumonia,” revealed the 39-year-old. While filming from his car, Artem continued, “I just got another set of antibiotics… hopefully this one will do the magic, I’ll be able to kick the pneumonia out of my lungs.” While pneumonia has become a secondary illness for some who contract COVID-19, it’s unclear whether Artem tested positive like some others DWTS professionals.
Responses quickly poured in from more benefactors, especially those who bought tickets to see the artist in action. “Dear Artem! My husband and I bought special tickets to see you! I know the show would be great (watched it in 2007)! Needless to say we didn’t go! Your health is the most important thing! I hope to see you at another time,” noted one fan. Another wrote to the star, “I pray you get better!!! For you and your family …And now forgive my selfishness: I pray you better be on time for the Utah show!!! I bought SPECIAL tickets to see YOU!!! But really, I wish you the best,” to which a third user replied, “I bought [tickets] usually also for Artem.”
Although Artem is forced to take a break from DWTS, viewers are confident he will return once he makes a full recovery. As the world goes through its third year of pandemic-related postponements and cancellations, health precautions are at an all-time high, especially as Artem and Nikki are parents to nearly two-year-old son Matteo. With just over a month to go until Dancing with the Stars: Live! ends, the clock is ticking for Artem. Fortunately, with the next season of Dancing with the stars still months away, the dancer still has plenty of time to heal until his return to television.
