THR reports that Beanpole director Kantemir Balagov will helm the pilot which co-wrote with the original game’s writer and creative developer, Neil Druckmann. Balagov coming abroad project means The Last Of Us is a perfect vibe for a game that makes anyone feel terrible while watching it entirely. The filmmaker first created it with the dark Russian language drama Closeness but he made a splash when he brought the war drama Beanpole to the Cannes Film Festival and got the Best Director award. The movie follows two women navigating the trauma of a post-WW2 Leningrad who was selected as a Russian entry for the Best International Feature Film at last year’s Academy Awards.
