Jennifer Tilly: From Rising Hollywood Star to Pro Poker Icon

It’s not uncommon to hear about celebrities who enjoy gambling. From Tiger Woods to Michael Jordan to Tobey Maguire, there’s honestly no shortage of them. However, one thing is pretty rare, which is a celebrity going pro. Jennifer Tilly, best known for her portrayal of Tiffany Valentine in Bride of Chucky, is actually an astounding pro poker player. If you’re curious to learn how it all started and how it’s going, make sure to keep reading.

Introduction to Casino Games

It all started with one simple game, World Series of Poker, gifted to her by her father who was also quite the poker player himself. From there the passion simply evolved. This speaks to the importance of digitization when it comes to traditional games, as it’s a great avenue to introduce such games to more people.

Now, we have further options nowadays such as live casino. They allow users to enjoy any casino game, from poker to roulette from the comfort of home or on the go via their phone/tablet. And since they’re live, they take immersion to the next level with an actual human host streamed live as you play.

Immersive games, regardless of platform, have started off this hobby for many people. And Tilly took it to the next step with an actual poker career that went very well for her.

Although there were a few moments throughout where she stepped back and regarded it more as a pastime, more specifically back in 2008 as per her column in the now defunct Bluff Magazine, she did make quite the return in 2010. While her poker beginning was relatively humble, she certainly did well for herself and continued to do so, as we’ll discuss below.

Notable Wins and Accomplishments

Let’s start from the very beginning, that one win that put her in the poker spotlight. Her 2005 win of the Ladies’ No-Limit Texas Hold’Em World Series of Poker. That earned her a well-deserved bracelet and a cash prize to boot.

This led to her being invited to the GSN Poker Royale in the Poker Royale: Celebrities vs. Poker Pros series. She did play for the celebrity’s side, even though she already was a pro poker player herself at that time. While she didn’t win, she got to third place which is still quite an accomplishment.

We also have to mention one very full-circle moment, when she appeared in the World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions in 2006. In the game, you get to face her along with Joseph Hachem, who was the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion amongst other poker players.

Rounding this section off with the most illustrious of her accomplishments: her induction to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame Class of 2022. She wasn’t alone in this, with fellow female players Vanessa Selbst, Angelica Hael, and Terry King joining her.

And that’s a wrap on everything you should know about the one and only Jennifer Tilly and her poker career. Next time you see her on the big screen, make sure to remember that there is more to her than just her amazing acting.
