There are many things about encanto that make the film unique. First, the emphasis on Colombian culture, which is often underrepresented in the mainstream media, was a high priority for Bush and his team. Moreover, encanto does not contain an evil villain, which sets it apart from most of Disney’s classic animated stories. Instead, the film focuses on vivid stories, exploring a magical family that is falling apart from the gravity of everyday pressures. encantoThe humorous yet eerily recognizable cast of colorful characters, plus stunning visual styling, make the film easily recognizable among other Disney films.

The capybara (the rodent-like animal) was randomly inserted into multiple scenes encanto, but never really got any significant moments. However, in this new post-credits scene, the animal is briefly put in the spotlight as it tries to urinate on the magical Madrigal house, only to have the building flood the rodent with water instead. Bush stated that while he found the scene hilarious, the… encanto team cut it because they “I finally felt that going out with the family’s emotion and joy of getting back together was the right thing to do.” The decision left the focus on the emotional plot of the film rather than the proposed short joke.

While the scene is fun to watch, it’s also understandable why Bush made the decision to omit it. encanto ends with some extremely emotional and heartfelt scenes. The moving, final moments of the film about the restoration of the Madrigal family are joyous but also sobering. This funny and light-hearted encanto post-credits scene would have been a bit out of place if it had been recorded, and may have detracted from the final emotional blow to the audience. Nevertheless, although the elusive capybara never got his moment to shine like Mirabel in encantomay he be in the spotlight for a while thanks to Bush’s look behind the scenes.
