In 1927 Whiteley’s ultimate rival, Harry Gordon Selfridge bought Whiteleys. He already had Selfridges at 400 Oxford Street under his belt. Whiteleys was sadly damaged in a bomb raid on October 19, 1940. … They then sold it to a new consortium called Whiteley’s Partnership.
